Spy Cases and People:
The International Spy Museum offers an exhibition featuring iconic spy cases as well as individuals who have played pivotal roles in espionage history, such as;
Mata Hari: Born Margaretha Zelle in Holland, Mata Hari became famous worldwide as an exotic dancer and courtesan during World War I after she was accused of spying for Germany against France during this conflict. Execution took place shortly afterwards via French firing squad in 1917.
Kim Philby: As part of the Cambridge Five spy ring, Philby worked secretly for Soviet Russia during the Cold War before ultimately defection to them in 1963 and being unmasked.
Aldrich Ames: Once an officer of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Ames was found guilty in 1994 for spying for Soviet Russia and Russia resulting in multiple compromises of assets and deaths of at least 10 agents he compromised through his spy activities.
Julius and Ethel Rosenbergs: Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were American citizens convicted of sharing nuclear bomb secrets with Soviet Russia, leading to their execution as civilian espionage cases for which U.S. courts approved capital punishment in 1953. This marked the first civilians put to death for spying within its borders.
