Nine Fun and Challenging Geography Games

There are lots of free online resources for teaching geography, including some simple, fun games. For example, Game On World is a multiplayer, map-and-marker based game that challenges students to find and mark a location. Smarty Pins is a somewhat similar game that also relies on a map. Wikiwhere gives students a description of a place and then challenges them to figure out where it is. Geoguessr and Spacehopper both provide Google Maps street views of locations and then challenge kids to figure out where the imagery cane from.

Key Takeaways:

  • There are many online geography games that teachers can use in the classroom to make the subject fun and engaging.
  • Developed by a high school student and teacher, GameOn World is an online geography game that many students can play at the same time.
  • In the online trivia game WikiWhere, the goal is to guess specific cities based upon three Wikipedia clues.
